4.Your Favourite author/writer
Introduction:-
More than anything else, I love reading. I read all kinds of books notably, travels, adventure stories, fiction, detective fiction and poetry. I read books written in both in English and Assamese. I can read Bengali also.
Name of the author:
I have read a large number of books by Mills and Boons, Shakespeare, Milton, John Keats, Anita Desai, Ian Fleming and most other famous author. I have read Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Nirad C Choudhury also. I think I love Nirad C Choudhury more than other writer.
Why do I like most him:
Nirad C Choudhury is not a novelist. His writings are based on his vast experience of sociological issues. His first book “Autobiography of an unknown Indian’ appeared in 1951. This book had really aroused the interest on this author of all concerned. He was recognized as a great author.
A brief description of his works:
His second book ‘A Passage to England’ came out in 1960. This book is a record of his first short visit to Britain. It shows a learned, lively, mind, steeped in European culture. His third book ‘The Continent of Circe’ was brought out in 1965. This book asserts that the Hindus are of European stock, immigrant Aryans from Central Europe. Besides, he had written a few more books like ‘Clive of India, Scholar Extraordinaire’, and so on.
Why he is Favourite:
Nirad Choudhury is my favourite author because of his vast range of knowledge. There is little doubt that he can talk on any subject under the sun. Long before he went to London, he not only knew where the important monuments and museums were, but also the location of many famous restaurants. Besides, he writes very well. Of Nirad Choudhury’s writings ‘The Observer remarked’.
“He writes like an angel”.
Conclusion:
I find his writings very interesting and amusing. For example I would refer to his essay ‘Shakespeare in Today’s England’. Ordinary, a Shakespearean scholar would discuss the themes of Shakespeare’s plays which would be boring to us. But instead Choudhury tells us about those little things that appeal to us----the Stratford wine list, for example. He is indeed a great writer in the world.

There are four types of pollution, i.e., air pollution, water pollution, sound pollution, and land pollution.
Reasons behind pollution :
Excessive burning of fossil fuels is leading to air pollution. Likewise, harmful and non-biodegradable waste products are being thrown into water and land, thereby causing water and land pollution. Too much noise can also affect human health. So, it can cause sound pollution.
The effects of pollution :
Human health is badly affected by pollution. Air pollution may cause bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory diseases. Too much release of CO₂ and other harmful gases is depleting the ozone layer. Drinking water from flowing water sources may cause illness because garbage and filth are thrown into it. Pollution of land decreases fertility of soil. Sound pollution affects our auditory organs.
Measures to check pollution :
Pollution can be checked by creating awareness among people to keep the environment clean and promote afforestation. We should stop using loudspeakers at public places to prevent sound pollution.

What a school magazine is :
A School magazine is a collection of creative writings of students and teachers of a school in printed form. It may also contain data of the school and relevant photographs. School magazines are generally published annually, but there may be exceptions too.
How it is managed and published :
A magazine committee or an editorial board is formed to collect writings and make selection. An editor is nominated to supervise all the tasks right from the beginning to the end. He has to classify the writings as poetry, articles, drama etc and divide tasks among the editorial board members. Then he has to collect greetings from well-wishers of the school. He has to compose an editorial. After getting the selected writings he has to contact a printing house. The printing house makes a draft of the manuscript on computer and hands it over to him for proof-reading. After the proof-reading is done, the magazine is arranged nicely.
